Spit it out or change the subject**

Here are some brand spankin new magazine treats featuring DANIKA plexi magic jewelry!

this first one may have to serve as inspiration for forthcoming photo shoot (minus Marc Jacobs dress). pale and annoyed are pretty much top priority over here at the DANIKA HQ. Mila and I pull it off pretty well, but the interns still have room to improve (we also pretend that there are interns to boss around).

this next one almost reminds me of a look from an old school project. apparently yellow tights, printed one piece and DANIKA necklace is a new classic! and have i mentioned that i need those SALVOR PROJECTS boots in pepto pink? its graduation season and i think i deserve a present.

and lastly, for now, I finally have found my memorial day tent building look. luckily all of the tent fabric will be on my head for easy transportation up the side of the mountain. and my triangle war paint stripes will scare the feathers off all the turkeys.

**special thanks to Karl Lagerfeld for providing me with a post title.

p.s. no pop stars were harmed in the wearing of these spikey earrings.

CQ + JJ + BB

Last night I attended an event put together by the lovely people at Caterwaul Quarterly . You have probably never heard of this publication, but it is definitely worthy of your attention. The occasion was the release of the print editions of CQ. I had previously read a few articles online, but it was nice to have a hard copy. On the train ride home I tore through the first issue; I seriously could not put it down. If you’re still skeptical, read this article first – written by the Editor-In-Chief (and former student body president of my college) Daniel Denvir.

The event was emceed by Toby David. He was definitely a character and talked about bananas, creationism, and someone named becky who is his wife, but he pretended she was his sister… and so on and so forth. Hey Toby, if you want to emcee another event give us a call.

At some point Jeffrey Jerusalem came on with his totally danceable electronic jams. I guess he’s big in portland and if the shirt my friend gave me my freshman year of college is any indication, “Portland is the new Brooklyn”. So get on that band wagon before the entire west coast does.

The night ended with a performance by Bobby Birdman and his crew. Check his stuff out NOW. Better yet, if you are in nyc area you should see him live tomorrow night at the Bowery Ballroom with our girl MNDR and Yacht. Good times are pretty much guaranteed with the purchase of your ticket.

And this was bound to happen sooner or later, but last night as the train approached the station someone shouted “Hey everybody! Here comes the choo choo!” and I thought to myself… that is so Raven.

Attention Chicago!

DANIKA is coming to town! I’ll be reprising my old role as Beadniks sales girl/instructor/designer for most of the days from March 18th-29th. But the extra special event is of course my trunk show, where you’ll have the opportunity to buy some original pieces including some that have never been seen before! If you can’t get enough of me, sign up for the one time only “Bead and Chain” class using acrylic fixins by yours truly. For more info check out Beadniks at http://beadniks.com/chicago

Vampires are still everywhere…

…but in the case of Animal Collective’s and Danny Perez’s lovechild visual album “ODDSAC” the vampire has red smoke and blue paint spewing out of his head as the sun rises. It seems like the film is constantly traveling through time and other-worldly dimensions. At one moment we are beside a river with some medieval looking guy cleaning large white rocks (maybe they’re eggs) and at another moment we are inside an undulating cosmic explosion, then all of a sudden we are dancing in a field with hippie girls, and then we are on some Icelandic looking rock field with a grungy guy banging on drums.

This experiment was simultaneously anxiety inducing and hilarious. Going into it, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to make it all the way through. It sounded more like something that would be in a black room at a gallery, where somebody could come in and leave as they please. Or rather it would be played at a party thrown by the Merry Pranksters as they dropped LSD. But in a movie theater? It was somewhat successful in that I didn’t feel the need to high-tail it outta there after the first ten minutes, but had the credits rolled a minute later than they did, it may have pushed me over the edge. The music was far more successful than much of the visuals, and I was glad to hear it at a decibal that neighbors wouldn’t appreciate. But I don’t think that experiencing an hour long psychadelic, kinda cheesy, horror film music in a movie theater is the way to go.

All in all it was a good time. The senses need to be rattled every now and then and this definitely did the trick.

Oh what a night…

Last night was one for the records. Mila and I finally made the big time with backstage access to the event of the season, BET’s “Rip the Runway.” I was there early, frantically beading while sitting under the racks, in an attempt to make enough jewelry for Keva J’s swimwear models. The night was rife with excitement, and C listers, as everybody prepped for the taping. Of course there were loads of Stevie Boi disciples and ANTM castoffs, but the most exciting backstage glance that we got was of the 6th Housewife of Atlanta, Dwight! One of the guys from P-Diddy’s brainchild Day-26 modeled a swimsuit under a trench coat (all the girls were creamin’) and a gold encrusted big girl tricycle made its way down the runway, twice. The crowd “got low” with Luda while the teleprompter helped him along and then kinda got buck wild (three times) for Soulja Boy’s song that had something to do with going up. We did enjoy seeing Soulja’s giant rabbit’s feet belt accoutrement whip around for 15 minutes of the same song, while some girl tried to dribble in the background. It really was an entertaining evening, and Mila’s and my florescent acrylic glowed under the lights. Hopefully we’ll have our moment in the sun when the show airs on the 15th and we are heavily featured bopping on the sidelines. Until then, enjoy these exclusive pics.
